EVANSVILLE, IN. – The Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is pleased to announce that the city of Evansville has been awarded the 71st National Square Dance Convention®. The convention is scheduled to take place June 22 – 25, 2022.

The 71st National Square Dance Convention® will draw approximately 3,000 people, occupying 16 hotel properties throughout the city. The convention will utilize the Old Nationals Event Plaza as well as the Ford Center throughout the duration of the event. The direct expenditures from the convention are estimated to be over $1.1 million.

“As former residents of Evansville, we are tremendously excited to, not only return to Evansville, but to bring the ‘World’s Greatest Square Dance’ to the city,” said John Cook, 2022 Convention Chair. “We will be bringing 3,000 plus dancers from all over the United States and around the world. We cannot believe how much Evansville has grown since we left. Square dancing is our passion! We met on the dance floor and continue to love this fascinating hobby.” The public is encouraged to attend the event on Saturday, June 25, 2022 from to 2 - 4 PM, at the Ford Center to watch live square dancing. Additionally, from 3 - 4 PM on that day, members of the non-dancing public will be invited to the dance floor to learn some square dancing. If anyone is interested in learning how to square dance before the event, there are three clubs in the Evansville area. Information about them can be found at evansvilleareasquaredancing.tripod.com.

“It has been an honor to work with John, Carolyn and the entire committee on the 71st National Square Dance Convention®. We continue to look forward to working with them as we finalize details on the convention for 2022,” said Ashley Vezzoso-Schaefer, Director of Sales for the Evansville CVB. “Evansville has a lot to offer conference attendees and we’re excited they get to see firsthand the tremendous growth the city has recently experienced.”
